Literacy Therapy for Dyslexia & Reading Challenges
Dyslexia • Hyperlexia • Phonological Awareness • Spelling & Writing Skills • Reading Fluency • Reading Comprehension
At Therapy Tree Services, we have speech therapists who specialize in providing literacy and dyslexia evaluations and therapy. We assess and treat dyslexia as well as other delays and challenges with reading, spelling, and writing skills.
Evaluations for Literacy Skills
We offer comprehensive literacy evaluations to children in our Cary clinic. Using a combination of assessments, we will identify your child's individual strengths and difficulties in the following areas:
-
Receptive and expressive language skills
-
Articulation and speech sound development
-
Phonological awareness
-
Reading comprehension
-
Written expression

As testing may take between 2-6 hours, the evaluation may be completed over multiple sessions to ensure that your child is performing at their best.
Our Approach to Literacy Therapy
Our literacy therapy sessions combine “work” and “play!" Rather than memorizing a bunch of rules, your child will use all of their senses to hear, feel, imagine, and visualize letter sounds, letters, words, and sentences.

Parents and caregivers are an essential part of therapy. You will walk away with tools to support your child's learning at home — for example, helping them 'feel' the sounds as they read or 'picture' the story in their mind to improve comprehension. Together, we will show your child that they can read, spell, and succeed in school.
Why Work with a Speech THerapist on Literacy?
At Therapy Tree Services, we go beyond the basic phonics programs that are used in most reading and tutoring programs.
Our speech therapists work with your child one-on-one and tailor each session to meet their needs. Our expertise in speech, language, and literacy allows us to address the "big picture" of your child's reading, spelling, and writing challenges rather than looking at one skill in isolation.

Most health insurance plans cover our dyslexia evaluations and therapy services. Reach out to learn more!
How Literacy Therapy Can Help Your Child
No matter where your child's current skills are, we will help them improve their:

-
Reading skills (e.g., decoding, fluency, comprehension)
-
Writing skills (e.g., punctuation, capitalization, spelling)
-
Confidence and ability to self-correct when needed
-
Grades and academic skills (as nearly every subject is related to reading and writing in advanced grades)

Parents are welcome and encouraged to join in and learn to use the same strategies at home when helping their child with reading and writing.
